Award for philanthropy: the Ainsworths
NeuRA is pleased to announce that Margarete (Gretel) Ainsworth and Len Ainsworth have been selected as joint recipients of the 2014 The Macquarie Group Foundation Great Australian Philanthropy Award by Research Australia.

Mrs Ainsworth’s major contribution allowed us to continue the fit out of our new building. In recognition of this gift, Mrs Ainsworth accepted our proposal to name the building the Margarete Ainsworth Building. Her generous gift represents one of the largest single gifts given by a female philanthropist in Australian history. This building will radically increase Australia’s capacity to conduct world-class research into brain and nervous system diseases.
Given the ageing population, there has never been a greater need for state-of-the-art neuroscience research facilities. Remaining levels of the new building are awaiting further funding to complete the fit-out.
